🔹Astana Financial Services Authority (AFSA) has developed a Recovery and Resolution Framework for financial institutions in the AIFC

🔸The total traded value on Astana International Exchange - AIX amounted to KZT 10.8 bn ($24.4 mln), which represents an 82% increase compared to the same period in 2022 for the first six months of 2023.

The new president of Busan Finance Center takes office as of August 7th to serve as the 2nd president after the Center announced the appointment

Mr. Rhee Myongho was appointed as the second president of Busan Finance Center during its general meeting of member institutions last June, and officially inaugurates on August 7th.

New President, Mr. Rhee Myongho, a graduate of Seoul National University with a B.A. in Civil Law and Columbia Law School, entered the civil service through the passing of the 33rd Higher Public Service Examination. He has held key positions such as Director of Asset Management Division and Capital Markets Division, and Director-General for Financial & Corporate Restructuring Policy at the Financial Services Commission.

With his seasoned knowledge in the financial market and expertise in international cooperation, acquired during his tenure as a Minister Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United Kingdom, he received recognition for strengthening financial cooperation with Southeast Asian countries while serving as the Minister and Consul General at the Korean Embassy in Indonesia.

More recently, while serving as the President of Korea Securities Depository, he achieved significant milestones, including the reform of FundNet*, attracting global financial institutions such as Citibank, and successfully hosting the 24th Asia-Pacific Central Securities Depository Group General Meeting (ACG24) in the metropolitan city of Busan.

The newly inaugurating president is expected to demonstrate a profound commitment to addressing issues on the regional financial industry, and strengthening competitiveness and driving innovation of the Busan Financial Hub based on his extensive experience and expertise in the financial industry and international cooperation. Through effective communication with both local and central government, as well as member institutions, the new president, Mr. Rhee Myongho will stand ready to foster robust support and cooperation from all relevant entities, pioneering the path for a promising era.

CMA Continues Its Tamkeen Initiative’s Training Programs

As the Capital Market Authority (CMA) continues to provide training programs to qualify national cadres in the insurance sector, it concluded the “Governance and Management of Insurance Companies” program on Thursday; which was organized in cooperation with FIFE. The program targeted senior management employees in all departments of insurance companies.

It introduced participants with the concept of governance and related terminologies and gave an overview on the most important regulations related to governance and management of global and national insurance companies. The program was launched at the beginning of the week as one of the approved programs for the year 2023 in Salalah Gardens Hotel in Dhofar Governorate. This comes as part of the Tamkeen Initiative; which represents the CMA’s endeavors to empowering and qualifying national cadres in the insurance sector through adopting a qualitative Omanization Policy to enhance the presence of national cadres in operational, middle and senior management positions.

Ahead of #COP28 and as a supporter of the Green Investment Principles (GIP) for the Belt & Road, we were glad to co-host a webinar in partnership with Bank Of Africa and Ninety One, co-chairs of the GIP’s Africa chapter.

The webinar started with welcome notes and introductions from Lamia MERZOUKI, Brahim Benjelloun-Touimi Hendrik du Toit and Dr. Ma Jun, Co-Chair, GIP Steering Committed around the GIP Journey & Africa ambitions/actions, followed by a Firechat with Amol Prabhu and Rongrong Huo and the GIP project update by Jonathan Cross.

We ended up by a panel moderated by Mourad FATHALLAH and featuring experts such as Valerie-noelle Kodjo diop, Moubarak Moukaila, Cheng Lin, Director at the International Collaboration Research Center & GIP Secretariat, Beijing Office and Amal Benaïssa, PhD who emphasized on “Transition Finance: understanding needs and challenges from local FIs and Investors”

From Frankfurt financial center, global standards for corporate sustainability reporting have been developed for about a year by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Boddenberg was on site last week with Veronika Pountcheva (ISSB member), Regina Karoline Schueller (Director of the Frankfurt office) and the team to share the latest developments.

The office in the financial center on the Main is a key location of the #ISSB as the headquarters of the Board and with the office of its Chair. It also acts as a hub for #Europe, the Middle East and Africa and performs key functions for the ISSB as a whole.

The number of EU-domiciled ESG UCITS funds grew to 10,154 in the second half of last year, with assets amounting to €5.1trn - 57% of the overall UCITS fund market, according to PwC Luxembourg.

📈 AuM growth stemmed primarily from funds being reclassified as Article 8 or 9 under SFDR, while new launches accounted for 4.5% of asset growth.

PwC predicts that ESG funds will reach €7.9trn in assets under management by 2025, making up 60% of the UCITS market.
