Drawing on a 2024 evaluation of sustainability reporting practices and WAIFC's dialogue ahead of COP28 with the Capitals Coalition's Digital Sustainability Disclosures (DSD) Project, the paper proposes a Digital Sustainability Reporting Data Ecosystem Framework built on core tenets including data-driven decision-making under the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), digital-first transformation, end-to-end supply chain transparency, and global collaborative governance. The white paper's recommendations call on WAIFC and its members to advocate for the adoption of open digital sustainability standards by governments and regulators, to seek a "seat at the table" with standards bodies such as the ISSB, EFRAG and GRI, to coordinate a policy playbook of domestic best practices across jurisdictions, and to invest in research, integrated digital reporting platforms, and capacity building for financial-sector professionals and board directors alike — so that the skills to interpret sustainability data keep pace with the tools to collect it.
