Coordinated by FinCity.Tokyo, this WAIFC working paper argues that art and finance are deeply interconnected: art is an investable asset class for institutional and private investors, while a vibrant arts scene builds the cultural capital, soft power and global attractiveness of a financial center, drawing skilled professionals to live and work there — even as gentrification of arts districts, seen in New York's Dumbo, can raise living costs for the artists who first gave those neighborhoods their character. On integrating arts and financial communities, the paper profiles Casablanca Finance City's partnership with La Foundation Hiba on Street Art Inside exhibitions, musical after-work gatherings and Literacy Rendezvous author events; Tokyo's Japan International Asset Management Consortium forums (over 300 participants across three events) and its Jazz Emerging Musicians Program, staged on the former Tokyo Stock Exchange trading floor to revive a district that had emptied out after electronic trading reduced the need for brokers to be physically present; and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group's MUFG Kogei Project, launched in fiscal year 2023 to support traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
