Published in June 2022, this report uses an Input-Output economic model to estimate QFC's economic contribution to Qatar in 2020. It finds that QFC activities supported USD 2.77 billion in gross value added (GVA) — equivalent to 1.9% of Qatar's total GDP and 2.7% of non-oil GDP — comprising a direct impact of USD 1.50 billion, an indirect impact of USD 1.03 billion and an induced impact of USD 238 million. Employment impact totalled 15,574 jobs — 4,421 supported directly, 8,916 through indirect impacts and 2,237 through induced impacts — up 25% since 2018. At the end of 2020, 1,180 gross companies were registered in QFC, of which 364 were newly registered that year and 91.4% were non-regulated; the analysis is based on 318 available company financial statements out of 1,035 net registered companies. QFC's direct contribution to the finance and business services sector's GDP was USD 1.32 billion, or 6.6% of that sector's USD 19.95 billion total. The report highlights that QFC's economic impact is concentrated among a small number of firms — the top 20 companies accounted for around 80% of the direct GVA contribution in 2020, though only 7 of those 20 had also ranked among the top 20 in 2018.
