Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V. (Financial Centre Hamburg) is a registered association founded in 2007 by companies from the financial sector to strengthen the competitive position of the Hamburg region. It has more than 110 members, including financial services companies, industry associations, institutions and individuals from the Hamburg metropolitan region, and is based at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce (Handelskammer Hamburg). Its board is chaired by Eberhard Sautter, CEO of the HanseMerkur insurance group, and includes Hamburg's Finance Senator, Dr. Andreas Dressel. According to figures from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce cited by the association, Hamburg's financial sector comprises around 10,000 companies with more than 44,000 employees, spanning banks, insurers, insurance brokers and specialised service providers, as well as more than 100 fintechs. On 1 October 2021, Finanzplatz Hamburg, the Hamburg Senate and the Chamber of Commerce signed the Masterplan Finanzwirtschaft, whose fields of action cover skilled labour and knowledge, joint projects between the financial sector and the city, and fintech support; an updated version is being prepared following a 2025 evaluation. Hamburg's exchange traces its origins to 1558 and is today operated by BÖAG Börsen AG, the joint operator of the Hamburg, Hannover and Düsseldorf exchanges.
