📝 The first Sustainability-Linked Bond in Central Asia is set to be issued as part of the ESG Bond Issuance Programme, amounting to up to 236.8 billion tenge on Astana International Exchange - AIX in 2024. An agreement between JSC “Almaty Electric Stations” (AlES) and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) was signed at the AIFC platform.

In addition to EDB, acting as the anchor investor, other development institutions and second-tier banks are entitled to participate in the project.

💼 The ESG Bond Programme has been supported by the AIFC Green Finance Center, which provided the required independent advisory opinion evidencing the terms of bonds are in full compliance with the principles of sustainable development bonds.

🌿 Daniyar Kelbetov, CFA, FRM, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AIFC Green Finance Centre, expressed AIFC’s commitment to promoting innovative financial instruments to attract investments into environmentally sustainable projects.

📈 Assel Mukazhanova, the Head of AIX, highlighted the growing global investor awareness of the importance of ESG criteria in investment decisions.

DIFC’s Chief Executive Officer Arif Amiri supported Prototypes for Humanity with welcome remarks at the Museum of the Future. The platform seeks to support the creation of viable ventures ultimately benefitting people and the planet, supported by robust business models compatible with industry and investment best practices.

We would like to thank everyone who helped make our ‘Insurtech Imperative: Tokyo’ seminar in Singapore a success earlier this month, including our co-hosts Oliver Wyman. The afternoon gave many insights into the opportunities and challenges for Insurtech firms breaking into Tokyo’s insurance market, including a focus on building partnerships with Japanese insurers.

In the afternoon, Regina Karoline Schueller and her team at the IFRS Foundation provided insights into the work of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and the past and future roadmap of developing a global baseline for sustainability reporting standards.

Last night, we hosted an exclusive networking reception in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce Kenya (BCCK) to highlight the growing ties between the #UK, #Jersey, and #Kenya, as well as the existing strong links between the City of London and Jersey.

The networking reception, hosted in Mombasa, was led by Faizal Bhana, our Director – Middle East, Africa and India, and Chris Hanlin, Director – Social Business Solutions East Africa Limited.

Last week, we hosted a stakeholder validation workshop on the financial sector skills survey commissioned by KIFC. The skills survey maps out the existing skills base in Rwanda’s financial sector and determines clear targets for local upskilling and talent attraction.

Last week, Gilles Roth, Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance, opened our China Finance Forum and touched on the key role of the EU in fostering a multilateral dialogue between the US and China, the importance of cross-border financial services and Luxembourg’s commitment to defend a European single market that remains open to the world.

👏 After several months of study, L’Observatoire de la Finance Durable has published the Net-Zero Donut, a holistic, sourced visual indicator that enables rigorous tracking of each Net-Zero player and alliance.

This tool, which will serve as a basis for work at #COP28, will make it possible to compare and track the contribution of financial players on both an individual and global scale, in order to see what the strong points and areas for improvement are for each of them.

This significant milestone builds on the 50-year successful diplomatic relations between the UK and Viet Nam. Supported by the UK Government, the British Chamber of Commerce Vietnam, and the British Corporate Advisory Council, this partnership aims to strengthen financial and related professional services in Viet Nam, including providing support for the establishment of an international financial and business center in Viet Nam.
