WAIFC leaders met with leading academics at Harvard University:

✅ A pivotal engagement was with the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, where #WAIFC had the honor of meeting Prof. Rawi Abdelal, the Co-Chair of the initiative.

✅ The WAIFC delegation also visited the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University at the Harvard Law School. The Center, renowned for its focus on the vast implications of cyberspace, draws expertise from various domains within the university.

✅ In another insightful meeting, the WAIFC delegation engaged with Mr. Josh Galper, the founder and CEO of Finadium. Finadium is a private research company with a focus on securities financing, the intricacies of overnight and short-term money markets across various jurisdictions, collateral management among financial institutions, and derivatives.

Under the theme "Finance, Trade & Gender Equality," this event, held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week - ADSW, will focus on four key pillars: green capital markets, financing innovation, green carbon markets and an unbiased climate transition. The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan appointed The Rt. Hon. The Lord Burnett of Maldon, as Chief Justice of the AIFC Court.

Lord Burnett was the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 2017 until 30 September 2023. He studied law at Pembroke College, Oxford University, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1980. He practiced as a barrister and was head of a barrister chambers from 2003. He was Junior Counsel to the UK Crown from 1992 and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel (now King’s Counsel) in 1998. In addition to his legal practice at the Bar, he was Counsel to high profile inquests including the inquest into the 1997 deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Fayed.

He became a Judge in 2008 and was presiding Judge of the English Western Circuit from 2011 until 2014. He was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2014. He was Vice Chairman of the independent Judicial Appointments Commission from 2015 until 2017. In July 2017, at the age of 59, he was the youngest Lord Chief Justice to be appointed since 1958. As Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett was President of all the Courts of England and Wales.

Lord Burnett has an impeccable reputation in the UK and worldwide. His appointment to the AIFC Court as Chief Justice is a significant achievement for the AIFC Court and for the AIFC.

The Economic Development Board of Mauritius is pleased to inform its valued stakeholders that the Investment Promotion Protection Agreement (IPPA) between Mauritius and Côte d’Ivoire has been ratified on 07 January 2022 and entered into force on the 07 August 2023. The ratification of this valuable investment instrument opens the door to stronger economic relations with the Western African nations and provides an additional instrument to the Mauritius International Financial Services Centre (MIFC).
